  2. Dear Tanya,
My former position at the Partnership for Children was Early Childhood Specialist. Now in my current role, I supervise the Early Childhood Specialists. Through the job description you listed, it sounds like both roles are similar. I have noticed that through different agencies and states, the role of an Early Childhood Specialist can vary. I enjoyed the job because I felt like I was making an impact on the quality of early childhood in my county. I was able to go to different centers and classrooms and work one-on-one with the providers. I also enjoyed building relationships with the children. My favorite was modeling how to appropriately interact with children during play. I was doing my two favorite things at once: teaching providers and playing with children. I am also a CLASS certified observer for both toddler and pre-k scales. I will be receiving training and certification in the Infant CLASS next month. How familiar are you with this assessment tool? I love it. If there are any questions you have about being an Early Childhood Specialist, please ask and I will try and answer them. I think if you decided to pursue that avenue one day, you would be rewarded.

    1. Hello Myra! Yes, I am familiar with the CLASS tool, because the observers would always come to our center and observe and rate us, providing the teachers and agency with feedback. I am really interested in this position, I would love for you to share you experience and answer some questions for me to help me become a CLASS observer, I have always wanted to do that!

I like the information you shared about Head Start- training for assessment, it is crucial in the improving and performing of students in the classroom. I hope to connect with team similar to this, so that I can accurately assess and administer the appropriate lessons for all children.

  4. Tanya,
I enjoyed reading about the jobs you found in the field of early childhood education. Many individuals think our degree is limited to working in the classroom environment. I am so happy that we have the opportunity to pursue so many avenues in the field. I particularly like the job as a Kids Activities Department Head; it reminds me of a job I observed, when I was working at the MS State Hospital. Each day, my co-work Mark would determine what activities the children would do during recreational time; some days they played pool, cards, volleyball, basketball, and other activities to keep them engaged. I always wanted a position like this, because it would allow me to show the children different aspects of play; it would also teach them how to have fun exercising. Your post made me rethink what I would like to do for my career in EC. Thanks for your insightful post.
