When I think of Research....

Some insights that I have gained from taking this course are; research is like doing detective work. Whatever issues, trends, or controversies that exist are extensively studied to uncover answers to questions that are unknown or perhaps misunderstood. When I think about conducting research I now know that the participants are major as so is this topic or issue that is being researched. When planning research the design that is chosen is also important, the how, who, when and where the research is being conducted is key, also how data and information is collected is a part of the research design. I didn’t really encounter any challenges, not at least from my participant; I did have some challenges with figuring out how to design my research and understanding the new terminology. Some of my perceptions of early childhood have been modified as a result of this course, by opening my understanding of why and how research is important in this field. Research helps us as educators to learn about family dynamics and issues that affect particular groups or individuals and that respect and equity are a part of the effort. I would like to say I thank everyone for their support, ideas, and suggestions through this research journey. Best wishes to everyone!

  1. Hi Tanya!

I really like the way that you compared research to detective work. I also agree that research is essential in helping educators to learn about family dynamics and issues that may be effected families and individuals. Thanks for sharing your ideas and good luck in the rest of your courses throughout this journey!

  2. I feel like the design process is much more difficult than conducting the research itself. There is so much we need to know about our participants before we begin. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Tanya,
I think I would rather see myself as a detective rather than a researcher--it sounds much more adventurous!! I can also relate to the overwhelming nature of research design and the terminology that goes along with it. I do believe that the research simulation was very beneficial in allowing us to apply what we learned in a very short 8 weeks of research study. I hope you found your research simulation relevant and meaningful as I'm sure you put a ton of time and effort into it ( I know I did!). Thank you for your contributions during this course and I wish you well as you continue your journey. :)

  4. I also agree that if the researcher is doing the work the way it's suppose to be done, they automatically turn into a detective. This includes looking from various corners and angles to ensure all the information (clues) lend you in the right direction to solving the mystery. Of course it's all for a good cause. Thank you for your insight and creative way of seeing things.
