Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1

The professional international contact that I was able to converse with and receive feedback from is “Professional Jamaicans for Jamaica”. In relationship to poverty and homelessness that they encounter in their professional lives as well as those encountered throughout the world is that in Jamaica early childhood education was something that was not focused on much until recent years, the organization was founded in 2010, to bring the recognition that early childhood education is the counter stone to future success. Poverty is something that represents a very large community in Jamaica, their focus is to put value and light on the importance of early childhood education, by creating programs for the very young, to ensure that these children affected by poverty will  be given the tools to succeed. I love this quote from their website “Our organization is committed to each and every project we launch and will ensure "failure is not an option" as we continue to work on behalf of the success of Jamaica and Jamaicans”. (Professional Jamaicans for Jamaica).
I have learned that Jamaica is making great strides to improve the status of their country in regards to early childhood education, Jamaica is a place where I frequently visit to vacation, therefore; I am aware of the poverty, but, to learn that they are aware that early childhood education is key to the success of children is new to me. I will be visiting Jamaica this June for a family vacation, hopefully while I am there I will be able to meet with the organization and maybe be able to provide some services or volunteer work for them in the near future.

  1. Tanya,
That would be so amazing if it worked out that you were able to meet your contacts in Jamaica. I'm glad that you have been able to make such great connections. This organization sounds that they are making children a priority.

  2. Hi Tanya
It is exciting that you were able to establish contact with a professional. It is great that Jamaicans have realized the importance of early childhood education. I have been aware of the extent of poverty in Jamaica as I recently viewed a documentary on Jamaica. It would be amazing if you were able to meet your contact in person and even more rewarding if you could volunteer there.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Tanya,

It is wonderful and exciting that you were able to make contact with someone. It must exciting for those living in Jamaica to start having the resources and to be able to gain knowledge about early childhood education as well as for those to start participating in a program. How wonderful it would be for you to get to meet professionals from the organization. I wish you the best on your trip. What a journey it will be!

  4. Wow to think that this was something that they never really did anything about until the last few years just really surprise me but I am glad that they are doing something about it now. I also do love that quote as well I think that it is a great way to think of things. Because they are new do you think that they have a lot of things to learn or do you think that they are very well established for only doing this for a few years?
